The general public considers adults to be more intelligent than teenagers. It is widely believed that adults are more experienced and knowledgeable, and thus more rational thinkers. However, our research from the evolutionary perspective suggests that teenagers are potentially superior than adults in terms of their intelligence which can be explained through how adolescents outperform adults in immunity to functional fixedness, cognitive development, decision-making and probabilistic learning. Consequently, it is likely that teenagers are more intelligent than adults in these aspects, challenging the conventional belief.
