Abstract

From the perspective of cognition, this paper analyzes the grammaticalization of "Zi" in Nankang dialect. Metaphor and metonymy play a key role in the process of Transformation and Grammaticalization of "Zi". This paper briefly analyzes how "Zi" in Nankang dialect can be expanded from a word expressing the practical meaning of "children and infants" to a word expressing young animals and plants; from the meaning of "expressing young" to a nominal affix; due to the role of metaphor and metonymy, it is further grammaticalized to become a mood marker in fixed syntax; and the grammatical function of classifier is developed from the actual meaning of "children" which expresses “kinship”.
